Daprà explains secrets behind ERC points success

Roberto Daprà stepped up to the FIA European Rally Championship’s big league for the first time when the ERC stopped off in his native Italy last month – and promptly scored points for finishing 12th.

Last season’s FIA ERC4 champion was competing on Rally di Roma Capitale in a Škoda Fabia RS Rally2, which he was using in competition for the second time with co-driver Luca Guglielmetti by his side.

Daprà was in the top 10 on eight stages and set the third fastest time of all on the first run through Monastero - Jenne test during the final leg.

Asked how he coped on his ERC graduation, the 23-year-old said: “We just tried to be the best of ourselves and it feels amazing, being close to the fastest drives of the ERC, some stages being closer than the other ones.

“We still need to work a lot with the car, with ourselves more and more and we need to improve step by step. But I want to say thank you to all the people that before helping me are believing in me, that’s the most important thing and I hope to give the same that they are giving to me being so young doing WRC, Italian championship, this ERC ace in Rome. It doesn’t happen to every driver and I’m very lucky for being here. I’m just putting 100 per cent of myself to do the best.”

Daprà continued: “We are improving and focusing on not doing mistakes, like in life or everywhere it’s hard to do a step ahead but it’s easy to do a step back. With a crash you can do three steps back but with one good rally you can do half a step ahead so it’s important not to do a mistake and just go ahead step by step with no risk and to be sure what you are doing.

“There are a lot of drivers within one minute and being one of these fast drivers is amazing.”
