Březík hits back in ERC podium fight

Adam Březík is back on the Barum Czech Rally Zlín podium after he was fastest through the first run of the Pindula stage on round six of the 2024 FIA European Rally Championship this morning (Sunday).

Březík, who lives on the iconic stage, was 4.2sec quicker than rally leader Dominik Stříteský through the 16.57km test to move back into third place after he demoted Erik Cais.

Using wet-weather Michelin tyres on his Škoda Fabia RS Rally2, Březík starts the upcoming 12.48km Halenkovice stage with a 4.7sec margin over Cais, who was third fastest through Pindula.

There was drama for ERC title contender Mathieu Franceschi after the Frenchman completed Pindula with a damaged front-right tyre following a brush with a fence. The Škoda driver damaged two tyres on the day-opening Semetín test and has been forced to retire.

Despite reporting a moment during Pindula, Dominik Stříteský, using a combination of wet- and dry-weather Hankook tyres, has restored a more comfortable advantage of 25.0sec over Simon Wagner, who said his medium-compound tyres were far from ideal for the muddy sections of Pindula.

The first pass of Halenkovice, which serves as a dress rehearsal for this afternoon’s event-deciding Power Stage, is due to get begin at 10:35 local time. It will be followed by a mid-leg service halt in Otrokovice ahead of the repeat of Semetín from 13:08.
