With rain falling prior to the stage start, drivers battled through slippery conditions with grip levels changing throughout.
Marcyk started SS13 0.3sec behind third-placed Andrea Mabellini but moved ahead of Mabellini and Mathieu Franceschi as Matt Edwards posted the first FIA European Rally Championship stage win of his career.
Marczyk, who will begin the event-deciding Spencer Quantum Hafod Power Stage 4.2sec ahead of Franceschi, said: “It was a proper slidey stage in some places, like Rajnochovice on Barum. There is nothing about the grip. It was possible to go 10 seconds faster but I was trying to stay on the road.”
Franceschi, who along with Marczyk remains in the ERC title fight, said of the stage surface: “It’s black top, it’s like this.”
Out front, ERC champion Hayden Paddon’s lead stands at 1min 34.7sec. The Power Stage is due to get under way at 14:05 local time.
