Paddon’s success means there’s a new ERC team on top

BRC Racing Team completed last weekend’s Rally Silesia on top in the FIA European Rally Championship for Teams, ending Team MRF Tyres’ run of title success in the process.

Team MRF Tyres had taken the coveted FIA title in 2022 and 2023 but points scored throughout the 2024 season by Hayden Paddon and co-diver John Kennard were enough for Italian BRC Racing Team to clinch the championship for entrants.

Running a Pirelli-equipped Hyundai i20 N Rally2 for Paddon and Kennard, BRC Racing Team accumulated 191 points across the eight-round ERC season with Team MRF Tyres finishing second on 167 points. TRT Rally Team placed third on 102 points, followed by Eurosol Racing Team Hungary (81), ACCR Toyota Dolák (67) and RedGrey (63).

Gabriele Rizzo, team principal of BRC Racing Team, said: “We are thrilled to have secured this FIA European title. After a difficult start of the season with some negative episodes that made us lose several points, we further raised the bar by calling into question various technical aspects together with the crew and our technical partners. The outcome was a continuous improvement of results useful for regaining and then securing the lead in the standings.

“The dominant victory in Wales and the extraordinary performance in Poland are the culmination of this journey and show that our current level of performance is at the top of the category. The icing on the cake was the Teams’ title.

“That repays the entire team for the extraordinary quality of the work done together, not only this season. In FIA ERC our team has been absolutely flawless for two consecutive seasons and together with a super-reliable car like the Hyundai i20 N Rally2, we have never had a technical problem while offering excellent performance in every type of condition and against every type of competitor.

“A special thanks to Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing and Pirelli who have made all this possible by offering their products and their support. Thanks also to our sponsors GD, SAS and OMP. Let’s enjoy these emotions for a while.”

Behind sixth-placed RedGrey, ACCR Orsák Rally Sport finished the 2024 ERC season in seventh position on 61 points. F.P.F. Sport took eighth place on 45 points with Atölye Kazaz (42) in ninth, one place ahead of IKSport Racing, which moved into the top 10 on the Polish championship showdown at the expense of Topp-Cars Rally Team.

All results are subject to final FIA confirmation.
