ERC aces rapid in a winter wonderland

Several FIA European Rally Championship regulars were on top form when the Jännerrallye hosted the Austrian championship season opener last weekend.

Multiple ERC podium finisher Simon Wagner banked two fastest stage times as he placed second overall on his first appearance in a Hyundai i20 N Rally2.

Filip Mareš (Toyota GR Yaris Rally2) followed Jan Černý (Citroën C3 Rally2) home in fourth position having gone quickest of all on stage 16 following earlier clutch problems and a damaged tyre.

Škoda Fabia RS Rally2-driving Jarosław Kołtun excelled to bag three stage wins and finish in 13th place, one position in front of Martin László. Hermann Neubauer and ERC3 champion Filip Kohn also appeared on the list of stage winners.

“We are very satisfied with our first event with the new team and new car,” said Wagner, whose Servis Podlesnik-run entry was co-driven by Germany’s Hanna Ostlender. “It’s been a tricky rally with a lot of snowy, icy and slippery conditions but we learned a lot and we are happy with our improvement and our speed.”
