ERC drivers will love Sierra Morena stages, says Campbell

FIA European Rally Championship drivers contesting the season-opening Rally Sierra Morena - Córdoba Patrimonio de la Humanidad in April will be in for a treat.

That’s the firm view of ERC championship manager Iain Campbell following a recent reconnaissance of the special stages being readied for the Spain’s new addition to the European championship roster.

“The stages here are amazing, the scenery stunning and the passion from the Spanish rally fans is nuts,” said Campbell.

“From driving through the stages, they are, in fact, very similar to Rally Islas Canarias in places, but possibly even quicker. And the organisers are very ambitious for their first ERC event, and excited about being the first event of our 2025 season.

“Because the surface is abrasive, unforgiving with high grip, the rally will provide a tough challenge for the tyres. The co-drivers will also be busy with all the corners and undulations, and the drivers breathless from trying to capture that last tenth of a second.”

The 42nd running of Rally Sierra Morena - Córdoba Patrimonio de la Humanidad begins with an opening ceremony in the centre of Córdoba on Thursday 3 April and is followed by what promises to be a spectacular super special stage in the heart of the city on Friday 4 April.

Campbell continued: “The opening ceremony location in the centre of the city is beautiful. The first stage on Friday night in the heart of Córdoba will be bursting with fans. The whole stage can be viewed from one spot. I really can’t wait for Rally Sierra Morena. It will start the season in style.”

Two full legs of action follow the super special on Saturday 5 April and Sunday 6 April. The event also forms the opening round of the FIA Junior ERC Championship and the new-for-2025 FIA Master ERC Championship.
