The 2023 ERC champion experienced the highs of an ERC stage win and the lows of an early exit during the 42nd Rally Sierra Morena - Córdoba Patrimonio de la Humanidad season opener recently.
Having non-scored in Spain, the M-Sport World Rally Team driver has hatched a plan for bouncing back on the all-gravel VI Rally Hungary from 9 - 11 May.
“We had some good pace on this rally but too many issues, too many mistakes from my side, so it’s a matter of trying to iron those out, keep the pace and figure out where we can be a bit smoother and a bit cleaner,” Armstrong said. “As long as you have the pace you can figure out how to keep that rhythm but stay away from hitting stuff and going off the road.

“To finish first, first you have to finish and we haven’t done that on this rally. Thanks to M-Sport and the Motorsport Ireland Rally Academy and all the other sponsors, hopefully there are some positives to take from the stage-winning pace.
“Going to Hungary is a completely different event but that’s the good thing about the ERC because it tests you on so many different types of surfaces. That’s back on rough gravel, we were there last year and we’ll try to get a better result. We’ll be working out where the areas of improvement are and implement them.”
