Ahead of round five of the FIA European Rally Championship this is what Rendina, the head of event organiser Motorsport Italia, has had to say.
How are preparations going for next week's Rally di Roma Capitale?
“Preparations are in the final stretch. There's been lots of work, but we have a super tight-knit team that is keen to raise the bar. The race is renewed every year, and I assure you it will be spectacular this time as well.”
What’s getting you most excited – we understand there’s a new Power Stage?
“The new Power Stage is definitely one of the most exciting innovations. Well, to be honest, it's not exactly new because we used it a few years ago. The thing that excites me the most, and that I always look forward to, is the response of the fans. When you invest so much time, energy, and even personal sacrifices to organise an event, the greatest satisfaction comes from the embrace and enthusiasm of the people.”
The Colosseum stage is not only the most iconic in the ERC but also in world rallying. How much work goes into the organisation and planning?
“It's very difficult. The Colosseum is a hyper-exclusive place, and organising a stage there is like organising an entire rally. Big thank you goes to the Councillor Grandi Eventi, Turismo e Moda di Roma Capitale, Alessandro Onorato, who supports us and allows us to work on this project. Today, it is one of our business cards, not only for us but also for Rome and the whole Italian motorsport. We are proud of it, but until it happens, we are always holding our breath. There are so many things to consider.”
As a former driver, what is going to be the most challenging stage and why?
“For sure Monastero - Jenne, the new Power Stage. It's very difficult, but also spectacular. We brought it back after years, and it will be stupendous live on Rally.tv. We've worked with local governments to return there, and I assure you that it will not be easily forgotten, neither by the drivers nor the audience. The stage goes through some tunnels, which will add a truly adrenaline-pumping touch of uniqueness.”
For fans visiting Rally di Roma Capitale for the first time, what can they expect?
“A one-of-a-kind event. From the Colosseum to the special stages, then to Fiuggi with the service park, the finish ceremony, and the unprecedented final party with Radio Globo at Rally HQ on Sunday evening. It's a party for everyone, families and fans alike. See you all in Rome!”
