Competing with the aid of hand controls aboard his Renault Clio Rally5, Lupu finished fifth in ERC4 having placed 17th in the category 12 months ago. Speaking at the finish in Fiuggi last Sunday afternoon, this is what the 40-year-old had to say.
You’ve reached the finish of Rally di Roma Capitale for a second time. How pleased are you?
“I’m very happy. A few years ago I was watching the guys on live TV, now I’m here and someone else is watching me so now my dreams have come true. I am only upset because I did just one little mistake on a tight corner on the first stage on Saturday and I had to reverse. If you can manage the handbrake it’s easy but I only have two hands. I also managed the heat very well, much better than last year and I know for sure we have a better pace this time.”
As well as reaching the finish you scored ERC4 points, which is a great achievement, right?
“Okay, because of the others who had problems in front of me we scored some good points, but they were the first points in ERC4. It means I have improved so I am very happy.”
