Kowax DST Racing goes four it in ERC

Kowax DST Racing will be aiming high when it embarks on its first major FIA European Rally Championship campaign in 2025.

The Czech-Polish team, which has operated successfully at national level and in WRC2, is set to field as many as four Hyundai i20 N Rally2 Step2 cars in this year’s ERC, including on Barum Czech Rally Zlín in August.

Its driving pool consists of Czechs Erik Cais and Martin Vlček, Pole Dariusz Biedrzyński and Austrian Simon Wagner, with the line-up rotating throughout the season.

As well as aiming for overall ERC points, Biedrzyński and Vlček will compete in the new-for-2025 FIA Master ERC Championship for drivers over the age of 50.

Four-time national champion Wagner has already announced his plans to contest the ERC season-opening 42nd Rally Sierra Morena - Córdoba Patrimonio de la Humanidad in Spain next month with the remainder of the Kowax DST Racing to be announced in due course.

Cais and Wagner have named Daniel Trunkát and Hanna Ostlender as their respective co-drivers for 2025. Rafał Fiołek will partner Biedrzyński, while Jakub Kunst has joined forces with Vlček.

Kowax DST Racing has attracted support from Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing in addition to several commercial partners and suppliers.

Vlček, who has driven with Hyundai power since 2019 and has made 12 ERC starts during his career, said: “Together with my colleague Darek Biedrzyński, we have not only created a new team, Kowax DST Racing, but also, thanks to the cooperation and support from Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing, we have two young and fast drivers in our team – Simon Wagner and Erik Cais.

“Darek and I share a great passion for this sport, as well as the immense joy of every kilometre we drive. Simon and Erik represent a new generation of drivers whose main goal is to win. I am very happy to have them on our team.

“We have already planned the entire 2025 season calendar. For several rallies, we will be fielding as many as four cars. In most events, we will have three crews, which also presents a significant challenge for our team.”

Cais (above), who completed the Barum Czech Rally Zlín podium behind Wagner last August, will tackle selected ERC events alongside his Czech championship programme. He said: “This is something that has been a long time in the making. I needed a reboot myself, so I’m very much looking forward to the new challenges. I’d like to say a big thank you to Martin Vlček for not hesitating to join forces after Hyundai approached me with this opportunity for 2025.”

The 42nd Rally Sierra Morena - Córdoba Patrimonio de la Humanidad opens the 2025 ERC season from 3 - 6 April.
